It's hard to believe that I was having trouble walking a year ago. By making movement a daily part of my routine, it's taken me down a path I never thought possible.
Nia is a holistic movement program. I found it quite by accident while trying to learn how to belly dance and discovered my body wasn't quite ready for that yet. The dance studio recommended I try Nia, and I went down a whole other road I didn't see coming. I tried going for my White Belt in June of 2020, however I didn't finish. And then I got sick with Hashimoto's...and went down a whole other road I totally didn't see coming!
In November of 2024, I began feeling better and tried Nia again. It was hard, but I did it every day for 20-25 minutes. By mid January, I decided to complete my White Belt training and fell in love with Nia, and my body, all over again. In May, I already knew I wanted to get my Blue Belt (which I completed in June), and in July, I knew I wanted to get all of the belts. In September, I headed to Boise, ID to complete my Brown Belt with Britta von Tagen, and ended up being the only Brown Belt in the class. I jokingly called it the "home school" edition, and I had a blast learning the expanding principles of Nia.
